Abstract
The author presents his perceptions on how EM is being taught in UK universities and specifically on where use is being made of some form of computer-aided instruction. It is concluded that the overriding reasons why EM software does not feature strongly in UK degree programs are the lack of resources and the heavy loading on staff. The problem is certainly not confined to EM courses but is probably more acute there because there is no doubt that this subject, probably more than any other, can benefit from the processing power and exceptional graphics now available in the desk-top computer. However, this requires a significant investment of academic staff time to implement, and this is a commodity in short supply at present.<>
