Abstract
Since the advent of variable frequency drive motors (VFD), standard rolling element bearings have begun failing from electrical arcing due to stray electrical currents in the motors. This paper will explore the damage mechanism in the bearings and introduce the use of ceramic rolling element bearings to eliminate this issue and support with case histories.
