Abstract
Magnetostrictive delay lines (MSDL) consist of a magnetostrictive wire; an acoustic pulse is produced by means of an exciting wire placed at right angles to the delay line and carrying a pulse current of suitable amplitude and duration. When the acoustic pulse passes through the detector coil a voltage pulse is produced, the amplitude of which depends on magnetic conditions at the points of excitation and detection. The authors extend the approach used in the digitiser to sense other variables at the point of excitation
