Abstract
It is planned that the DECT system will include a number of security features designed to enable secure access to fixed systems and to provide confidentiality of data transferred over the radio path. Five security services have been proposed: authentication of a portable part, authentication of a fixed part, data confidentiality, mutual authentication and user authentication. The author discusses the purpose of these services and describes the mechanisms to provide them which are being considered. He focuses on the authentication of a portable part and the data confidentiality services since these are arguably the most important of the five
