Abstract
Generalized impedance boundary conditions (GIBCs) and generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs) have been explored as a means of modeling thicker material layers. Unfortunately, the resulting diffraction solutions obtained with GIBCs and GSTCs are often nonunique, typically displaying unknown constants which cannot be determined after the application of the standard edge condition. The authors address the general solution and the subsequent determination of the unknown constants for three specific junction geometries. Particular emphasis is placed on diffraction by grounded metal-dielectric junctions.<>
