Abstract
The scattering and guidance of electromagnetic waves from a two-dimensionally (2-D) periodic metal grating structure are investigated. Spectral-domain analysis is used to obtain the dispersion characteristics for this structure. The effects of mode coupling between TE and TM modes are examined, taking into account the hybrid mode nature of the propagation problem. Numerical results are presented which provide valuable information for the design of new devices with 2D periodic structures, particularly in the millimeter-wave frequency range, such as antennas, filters, couplers, and distributed reflectors.<>
