Abstract :
The transient electromagnetic field generated by a vertical magnetic dipole above a conducting earth is investigated theoretically. The exact time-domain response of a vertical magnetic dipole above a conducting half-space is of crucial importance in the interpretation of airborne electromagnetic data. With the aid of airborne electromagnetic systems, conductivity maps of the Earth surface are produced which can be related to surficial geology. By representing the reflection factor of the reflected field as a Laplace integral, it is shown that it is possible to arrive at a representation for the field in the transform domain that allows the application of the Cagniard-de Hoop method. Numerical results are presented.<>
