Abstract :
This paper summarizes a recently completed study undertaken to provide NOAA´s Office of Ocean Engineering with an up-to-date information base on: (1) the needs of government, academia, and industry for marine environmental data, and (2) the state-of-the-art of oceanographic instrumentation in support of these identified data needs. This information was ultimately used to assess the present state of oceanographic sensor technology.
