Abstract
The generalized predictive control (GPC) of Clarke et al (1989) is one of the most popular long-range predictive control algorithms. However, the GPC has limitations with minimum phase processes for some of the most obvious choices of its design parameters. The weighted predictive control (WPC) law of Grimble (1990) was specifically developed to avoid these difficulties whilst retaining a similar philosophy. This paper investigates the stability property of the WPC for nonminimum phase systems and presents comparison with the GPC
