Abstract
CTRON interface specifications, which assume a two-layer operating system (OS) configuration, are designed to improve software portability, including that of OS components. The authors are studying implementation of CTRON on a general-purpose microprocessor with a virtual storage architecture, for introduction to switching systems in an information communication network. They describe the design concepts of the CTRON kernel, which is the lower OS. It has shown that the kernel can be adapted to a variety of system configurations and that it can take advantage of virtual storage while assuring real-time performance. Moreover, it is found to be a practical approach to locating a number of application programs in the same logical space and running all tasks executing those programs in that space when applying virtual storage to the switching processing field
