Abstract :
At the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK), the feasibility of a 4 MW 170 GHz gyrotron is currently under investigation. The project aims inter alia at increasing the output power of coaxial gyrotrons to their technical and physical limits. For this purpose, a design of a triode type electron gun is presented which has been optimized to meet the required specifications for the operating mode of a 4 MW continuous-wave gyrotron. Simulations indicate suitable performance with respect to beam quality and reliability.
