Abstract
We investigate the potential of wireless sensor networks to monitor the structural health of bridges. Needing to explore different sensing, networking, and distributed computing approaches in real conditions, we are led to the creation of an on-site testbed. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of the testbed by offering an overview of the architectural choices and components, discussing obstacles found, and describing the software used to manage it. Finally, we discuss our first experiences with the testbed and the first validation tests of the sensing data gathered.
