Abstract :
A hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm is presented in this paper for multiuser detection in a synchronous direct sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system, which explores the application of Evolutionary algorithm (EA). The algorithm employs a (1 + lambda) Evolutionary Strategy (ES) for the basic search, which directs the search process towards an elitist solution space. A simple 1-opt local search is applied for thorough search in the elitist region. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm as this approach offers near optimal bit-error rate (BER) performance with lower computational complexity compared to the maximum-likelihood (ML) detector for a large number of users.
