Abstract :
With the rapid progresses on handheld devices and wireless/mobile communication technologies, mobile appliances with provision of Internet and ubiquitous connections, e.g., personal digital assistants (PDAs) combining smart cellular phones, are popularly applied on many applications, such as on infotainment, emergency remedy, and disaster rescue. However, due to the limited computing capability and the small display screen of handheld devices, a feasible embedded communication system and a novel transmission and display control scheme are required. In this paper, we proposed and developed a real-time mobile multimedia communication system for the prevention and alert of debris-flow disaster (RM2CS), which provides a real-time and multimedia communication functions based on mobile environments. The backbone of RM2CS is the 3-tier architecture includes the mobile users, the multimedia server, and the decision support system. There are eight intelligent agents are designed to gather, search, classify, filter, process customized information, and push relief maps collaboratively. In order to reduce the transmission and display latency, we proposed the location-aware path prediction method (LP2M), which effectively predict the direction of mobile clients and transmits the changed part of a relief map to mobile clients.
