Abstract :
Third generation wireless systems based on wide band code division multiple access (W-CDMA) are expected to support variable data rates for multimedia services by employing orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes. Dual priority video transmission scheme using discrete cosine transform (DCT) was proposed by Gharavi and Alamouti (October, 1999). In this paper, we propose a multi-priority video partitioning scheme to enhance the multimedia capabilities of CDMA based systems using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The multiple video streams generated by the wavelet transform are transmitted over the wireless channel. The performance of the proposed video partitioning scheme is evaluated and compared with the performance of the DCT based partitioning scheme [Hamid Ghavari and Siavash M. Alamouti, October 1999].
