Abstract
Technological advances in the design and production methods of power electronic devices and permanent magnet materials have made it possible for new type of electronically commutated permanent magnet motors to develop quickly. These are becoming more and more suitable for a variety of applications. The author discusses the basic magnetic properties of permanent magnets that make them suitable for use in motors. Basic geometric configurations and new configurations for stator lamination and rotors are also discussed
