Abstract
Improved design of a coaxial cathode oscillator was investigated in this paper. The main use of virtual cathode oscillator is to generate gigawatts of microwave power. Vircators are easy to construct and maintain because it does not require the use of magnetic field. The principle of generating microwave radiation is conceptually simple, however the actual process is highly nonlinear. By introducing a specially designed septum and making part of the anode near the flange impermeable, we were able to increase the microwave output of the device. Computer modelling presents a viable method for studying and understanding the interaction mechanism of a vircator.
