Abstract
The hydrodynamic problem of a dynamically positioned vessel is formulated by a double time scale expansion. Simplified models are derived and then used to design a control device to keep the vessel within a permissible radius. Physical concepts lead the design while using the theory for multivariable systems in frequency domain. Simulation results validate the design.
