Abstract :
Global Marine Development Inc. (GMDI), under contract to General Electric Company and the American Gas Association (AGA), recently designed, built, and installed a kelp test farm offshore Southern California. The farm is intended to demonstrate that kelp can be artificially grown in commercial quantities in deep ocean water. This paper discusses the many aspects of design and analysis, scale model testing, construction, assembly, and installation of this unique system.
