Abstract :
In smart-power IC technologies the trend toward more functional integration is expected to intensify further, producing more compact, efficient, and user-friendly power modules. It looks that in the foreseeable future it will be possible to connect a motor to a controller without specially designed electronics. The paper is focused on the design strategy of next generation single-chip smart inverters for motor control applications. A multifunctional inverter with new configuration is proposed that supports standard motor types such as AC, DC, stepper, or brushless DC, too. The background of the theoretical approaches and detailed laboratory experiments are also presented in the paper.
