Abstract
The application of multivariable system techniques to the control of small industrial systems is nowadays economically viable with the ready availability of low cost microcomputing power. One such system is a loaded DC motor-DC generator set where a multivariable design technique may be used to produce a controller which will eliminate the interactive effects between generator output voltage and speed. The motor is a 110 V, 2.6 kW machine and the generator is 150 V, 2.1 kW. The work is part of a programme concerned with the application of system identification methods and control strategies to electrical machinery. The theory is not new, but it is applied against cost constraints
