Abstract :
Surveys the construction of an experimental pilot crane and its instrumentation systems. The modelling and identification results are briefly introduced and different control strategies and experiments considered. The center of mass formulation for the simplified system equations facilitates the control design procedure. The pilot crane has proved to be a valuable facility in this type of research, which can hardly be performed on full-scale cranes
