Abstract :
A circularly polarized waveguide array is designed for direct broadcast satellite (DBS) receiving. As a low loss circular polarizer, a dipole array is etched on a polyethylene sheet and is placed in front of a linearly polarized slotted waveguide array. A circularly polarized radiator composed of a slot and a dipole is numerically designed for an array element taking the mutual coupling into account. A 25-element linear array is designed to obtain uniform illumination. The design is verified by measuring the reflection, the aperture distribution, and the radiation pattern. The reflection is suppressed below -20 dB over the 5% bandwidth. Uniform aperture distribution is obtained at the design frequency.<>
