Abstract :
An expendable, air-dropped buoy has been developed for measurements of wind speed, relative humidity, water temperature, and air-water temperature difference at the ocean surface. The air side sensors are mounted on an inflatable mast erected after impact. A microprocessor-based system transmits the data via a VHF link to a receiver on an aircraft where a special demultiplexer unit displays the data and provides analog signals for recording. Test program results are summarized.
