Abstract :
In this paper, we study the ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) system performance for partial-Rake receivers. We specifically consider M-ary code shift keying (MCSK) impulse modulation and M-ary pulse position modulation (MPPM) for UWB-IRs. We initially derive the lower and upper bounds on the symbol-error rate (SER) for MPPM, which can be easily extended for MCSK. We then show that the practical implementation of MCSK can provide about 2 dB performance gain over MPPM, as code shift keying randomizes pulse transmit locations and hence is less effected by multipath delay spreads.
