Abstract :
This paper presents the ATM implementation requirements for third generation mobile infrastructure (FPLMTS/IMT2000, UMTS), the required mobility-specific services, and a typical implementation scenario. Initially the requirements of ATM within mobile systems are considered. This is followed by a consideration of the way in which ATM transport and control signalling protocols can be included within both 2nd generation mobile systems (GSM) and also 3rd generation mobile systems (UMTS and FPLMTS). Options are considered for the integration or separation of mobility management signalling with UNI and NNI signalling protocols for B-ISDN
