Abstract :
The current status of software maintenance is acknowledged to be very low. This is a paradoxical state of affairs when one considers the huge investment in software that has been made by industry and commerce, the impact of software on company profitability and the resources spent on both its production and maintenance. The authors raise the profile of this, the Cinderella of the data processing industry, by advocating a policy of preventive software maintenance
