Abstract :
It is shown that an improvement in the electrical characteristics of the conventional microstrip BA (backfire antenna) can be realized by using a two-layer patch element instead of the usual patches. The new BA is well-suited for compact and medium gain applications, and is also attractive as a feed for paraboloidal antennas. Experimental results on radiation pattern, input voltage standing wave ratio, and gain are presented.<>
