Abstract
This paper presents localization accuracy matrix analysis (LAMA) for the characteristics of localization accuracy of the 2D fixture system in fixturing planning stage. By using geometric fixturing constraint theory, deterministic localization establishes a relationship of the prismatic workpiece with respect to a fixture frame with the unique and accurate location (both position and orientation). According to the deterministic localization and the locator matrix, the localization variance matrix and localization accuracy matrix are defined by using statistical approach. Three evaluation criteria of localization accuracy can be defined. The relative position of locators with least translational variance and rotational variance is the position with best localization accuracy and can be found quickly by using three evaluation criteria. From the preliminary results of localization accuracy analysis, localization accuracy matrix analysis provides a quick way to predict and find the relative position of locators with the minimum localization variance and the best localization accuracy. Different examples would be given to justify these methods.
