Abstract
Summary form only given. HDR (hot dry rock) technology has reached the stage at which it is necessary to decide on the feasibility of constructing a prototype of a commercial HDR system. To help make such a decision, it is necessary to design such a prototype conceptually. A specification of targets for an electrical power generating system based on two wells is presented. This specification is related to a full-scale commercial system, and the objectives of developing a prototype to such a specification are discussed. The author postulates that the conceptual design of the prototype is the next step in the development of a commercial system, and then proceeds to consider the factors to be taken into account in this design
