Abstract
It is possible to take a finite set of near-field measurements from which the far-field pattern can be computed. It is not essential that the measured parameter is directly proportional to the local field vector, provided only that it permits the relevant information concerning the field distribution to be derived. The authors are investigating a method of deriving an antenna´s radiation pattern from the changes in reflection coefficient measured at the antenna feed, as a long wire is moved past the antenna aperture. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that the Nyquist sampling criterion is applicable to near-field measurements of antenna patterns
