Abstract :
The forthcoming UK DBS service will use the DMAC/packet system, thus providing an evolutionary path for the addition of new services, starting from improved pictures and digital audio, and continuing right through to HDTV and multiple data services. The advantages offered by the system are described, together with the practical transmission system concepts and implementation. The anticipated four phases for developments both in transmissions and receiver technology are described, emphasizing the importance of the first phase of the set-top convertor in establishing a visible commercial service
