Abstract :
The author gives a brief summary of how data exchange may be used for typical electrical products. It is possible to implement IGES translators to transfer electrical product information relating to schematic, geometric model, connectivity and material types and properties between dissimilar CAE systems. The area of testing and behavioural information transfer requires further development. Any translator development in the heavy current electrical area would require co-operation between the designers of pre and postprocessors to ensure consistent use of the necessary user defined attributes
