Abstract :
Computer aided drafting and design (CADD) is now well established. Many CADD systems mimic traditional drafting methodology, are general purpose, and provide only graphical representation of the engineering data. Increased computer hardware capacity, advanced software techniques, and a better understanding by users of the benefits possible have led to a movement towards solutions for specific applications. The author describes one such solution developed for electrical engineering. The 2D module of the Medusa CADD products features the full range of drafting commands and an array of facilities such as linetypes, text-types, the creation of frequently used symbols, and hierarchical structures of graphics. The relational database system includes facilities to: create, load, and unload databases; allow multiuser working; control retrieval strategies; index; consistently process multiple transactions; and recover after system failures
