Abstract :
A novel technique is presented for the complete analysis of the three-dimensional electromagnetic scattering of a time-harmonic plane wave from an infinite periodic linear array of finite-size penetrable bodies. The method is applicable to arrays composed of penetrable bodies of smooth but otherwise arbitrary shape. Lossy bodies can be handled with no additional complexity. Arrays composed of perfectly conducting bodies are treated as reduced cases of the general procedure. At the core of the method used is the idea of solving for fictitious current sources that lie at a distance away from the surface. As a numerical study case, the authors consider the problem of scattering from a linear periodic array consisting of dielectric spheres.<>
