Abstract
A range of techniques have been used for the determination of the morphology of polyethylene. These include optical and transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and wide angle X-ray diffraction. Comprehensive X-ray diffraction studies have been carried out on sheet samples of polyethylene which have been cross-linked using radiation, peroxide and silane methods. In addition, cross-linked cable samples have been examined at room temperature and at 90°C. Changes in polymer morphology with crosslinking and on heating will be discussed
