Abstract :
A high-speed and low-cost system for scanning, identifying and encoding fingerprints is described. The system uses a technique called coincident sequencing for the positive identification of individuals using fingerprint characteristics without the necessity to store any fingerprint images. Work to improve the input image by refinement of the scanner and the cleaning process is continuing. As the cleaning process consists of filtering, thinning, and chain coding, improvements and updates on all three stages are constantly being made. It is expected that significantly less than 1% false reject and 0% false accept error rates can and will be achieved
