Abstract :
Summary form only given. Most community antenna television (CATV) systems installed today use the amplitude modulation-vestigial sideband (AM-VSB) format and operate around 1.3 /spl mu/m. It has been recognized for several years that a Pr-doped optical fibre amplifier operating at 1.3 /spl mu/m suitable for analog signals would be very useful. We have recently reported that a suitable design associated to the new pumping wavelength of 1030 nm that makes the amplifier both practical and efficient. We present here its characterization within a CATV system.
