Abstract
The Flagship project is a collaborative academic and industrial project which aims to develop a parallel machine to support declarative languages. Although the intention is to cater for general declarative languages, the major focus has been on functional languages with extensions for supporting logic languages. This is because the Manchester University group believes it is extremely difficult to build an extensible parallel machine with the low-level synchronisation and communication needed to implement logic languages. The authors outline the parallel reduction model of computation and present an overview of the machine architecture to support the model. Sample results from simulating the parallel machine architecture are also discussed
