Abstract
Under power industry deregulation, dispersed power sources such as solar cells, wind turbines and ultra small-scale cogeneration are expected to penetrate the retail market sector, intensifying the variations of power quality requirement. Power system simulations are quite effective to examine the diverse impacts, whereas, for improved accuracy of simulations, the roles of practical measurement systems are all the more important. In this paper, the authors present practical applications of a new measurement system architecture geared to: (1) measurement and analysis of complex characteristics of dispersed-source power systems; and (2) a fault locator for lightning faults based on the Global Positioning System (GPS)
