Abstract
Shows how theoretical results obtained from computer modelling can be presented in such a way as to provide a clear and practically relevant guidelines for the design of focused ultrasonic transducers. The results are applicable to sound beams produced either from disc-shaped transducers focused by means of axicon, toroidal or spherical lenses or from similarly shaped piezoelectric elements. Because the results have been extracted directly from a realistic computer modelling procedure, they do not suffer from the inaccuracies incurred when approximate analytical formulae are derived
