HDTV signal origination

The Independent Television (ITV) Association coordinates many of the activities of the sixteen independent production companies that form the ITV Network. Engineering technical development is an important aspect of these activities, in particular the investigation of new production systems such as HDTV for which an essential requirement must be compatibility with existing 625 line standards. A work programme commenced in 1985 with the acquisition of an HDTV camera and displays to investigate fundamental parameters. Latterly, the ITV Association joined the European Eureka 95 project with the responsibility of providing a complete Studio Reference Chain to the proposed 1250/50 standard
