Development of low-profile 145 kV GIS

Gas-insulated metalclad substations have a history extending back almost four decades, and SF₆ has been used for 20 years. The by-products of arcing in SF₆ can be dealt with satisfactorily by suitably designing the switchgear and the insulating properties of the gas can be maintained throughout the service life of the equipment. The design of a new substation, the GMT11, is described. It has a rated voltage of 145 kV and a rated current of 3150 A
