Abstract
The spherical reflector antenna of the Arecibo Observatory will be provided with a new dual-reflector feed. The author discusses how to synthesize this dual-reflector feed to provide an illuminated aperture with an elliptical shape. It is shown that an elliptical aperture can give 0.85 dB more gain than a circular aperture.<>
