Abstract :
There is a market for high quality, high strength mouldable hardboard. The quality of hardboard fundamentally depends upon the wood chip stock being given the optimum amount of defibration. Continuous optimal defibration can only be achieved with plant automation. The difficulty is that no effective means of automatically measuring wood defibration exists. The paper describes an initial study of the application of a low-cost computer vision (CV) system to the wood defibration problem. The purpose of the system is to grade the quality of the wood pulp
