Abstract :
The diffraction profile synthesis (DPS) technique proposed by Wood (1980) can be used to partially shape a circularly symmetrical dual reflector antenna. The authors propose an improvement to Wood´s method which makes it possible to control the amplitude on the aperture to some extent when the phase is controlled. Therefore, consideration is given to both sidelobe level and efficiency. A 6 m-diameter 2.1 m focal length standard paraboloid is illuminated by a primary feed with a cos/sup 100/ theta /sub 1/ power pattern, spherical wavefront, and 18 degrees half illuminating angle. The desired amplitude distribution on the aperture is shown. The scattering pattern, at 6 GHz, of the subreflector obtained by the proposed method is illustrated.<>
