Abstract
The communications antenna payload for INTELSAT VII comprises four antenna systems: C-band hemi/zone beam antennas, K-band spot-beam antennas, C-band spot-beam (added during contract negotiations), and C- and K-band global coverage antennas. The global coverage at both frequency bands is satisfied with the use of dual-mode Potter horns as utilised on previous INTELSAT spacecraft. The authors discuss some salient design approaches applicable to the more challenging requirements associated with C-band hemi/zone and the K-band spot-beam antennas
