Abstract
This paper presents a five-level bridge inverter based on a commutation cell of three states. The principle of operation of this inverter is described and the main theoretical waveforms are presented, as well as the experimental results. The proposed inverter has the following advantages over classical converter: the output voltage has five levels, the frequency in the output filter is four times the switching frequency, the load current is divided between the switches, therefore the conduction losses are reduced and redistributed. Given these characteristics, this converter is suitable for industrial applications.
