Abstract :
A brief description of the theoretical approach is presented, including a discussion of the plane and edge wave components present within the resultant waveforms. The predictions of theory are then compared to experimental results for two cases; generation by a wide bandwidth piezoelectric longitudinal contact transducer, and the source created by pulsed laser irradiation of a solid surface
