Abstract :
Summary form only given. China is a developing country with large populations. Domestic business activity in the telecommunication switching and transmission area has been tremendous and unprecedented in the last 15 years. Fiber-optic technologies played an important role both in the intercity long-haul transmission network as well as the intracity local area network. In this paper, we report the fiber construction and system deployment activities in China. Note that the technologies such as SDH system and erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) applications are the important choice in the network planning. Optical dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) and high-speed time-division multiplexing (TDM) 10 Gbits/s per wavelength system will be employed in the near future.
